“Everybody has a secret world inside of them. I mean everybody. All of the people in the whole world, I mean everybody — no matter how dull and boring they are on the outside. Inside them they’ve all got unimaginable, magnificent, wonderful, stupid, amazing worlds… Not just one world. Hundreds of them. Thousands, maybe.”
I’ve found I have thousands, and this is where I share them. Small Worlds is going to host web serials (the first of which is, appropriately, also called Small Worlds) by Alex Raizman. These are very much in a early draft form, and as serials get finished, they will be published in a more refined form through Amazon.
Almost every story I have was inspired by Reddit’s writing prompt subreddit, and I cannot recommend it enough for writers looking for ideas. I also have a blog if you want to view some less narrative writing on mine.
Here’s a quick overview of some of the stories here so far:
Small Worlds – A complete story! Small Worlds is about a man who finds out that the mysterious figure that followed him his entire life is part of something greater, and Ryan Smith gets sucked into a world of adventure, wonder, and intrigue – and has to find out the best way to end the world.
Strange Cosmology – The sequel to Small Worlds! Ryan and co. deal with the aftermath of Small Worlds, including new threats, new allies…and still need to figure out how exactly they’re going to end the world. Updates Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
Dragon’s Scion – After years of living only with her adoptive father, the dragon Karjon, Tythel is told that she is the rightful heir to the throne, a throne stolen by beings from beyond the sky. Now, she’s out to free the land from their rule.
Ink – When your tattoos determine your house and your power, Lily is the first to get a mark of a new House that she will one day lead. Assuming, that is, she lives long enough.
Scythe – When Edgar got hit by a truck, he thought that was the end. Instead, he gets handed a scythe and told it’s time to find his soul before he dies. Again. Who said dying was easy?
Exercise the Demons – Being a personal trainer means that some times, you end up with odd clients. Sometimes, those clients are a small horde of out-of-shape Demons. Sometimes, working with them means you start changing into a demon yourself. Kelly may have bitten off more than she can chew.
Beast Friends – A one-shot story that could be the basis for a later serial, Beast Friends explores what happens when humanity finds out, once they get to space, that they are unique because they have managed the trick of domesticating animals, beyond for food.
Simulation – A short story in four part, Simulation asks what happens when we find out our world is exactly that – and try to meet our makers.
I’m also working on transforming another story, Arthur, King of Hell, into my first self-published novel. It’s about what happens when a guy named Arthur finds himself King of Hell, and his slow descent into earning the title – while trying to be a better King than the last guy to hold the throne. The first draft can be found on reddit, here.
